A family member recently passed away, leaving inheritances to his extended family. We had a great relationship with the him but do not get along at all with his son who is the will’s executor. Other family members have received inheritances but have been sworn to secrecy and threatened by the son with loss of their money if they tell us anything (lawyer’s name, date of reading). How do we find out on our own if we are due inheritance?

contact the county courthouse where he lived, the will should be recorded and is public record, in fact, some county probate records are online. his son is required to abide by the will and can be sued for mishandling the estate.
The executor is supposed to follow the directions in the will. I doubt the will said to swear anybody to secrecy and the executor should not have the power to change the will in any way unless said power is in the will itself.
Your best bet is to talk to an attorney. The attorney should be able to make sure the executor follows the will and that you get what the will states you should get. At least you’ll know what the will did say.
